Mr. John Walter Anderson

August 20, 1930 - March 4, 2015

John W. Anderson, 84, of Ankeny passed away March 3, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Memorial Services of Iowa Funeral Home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). a visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.
John was born August 20, 1930 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
He served in the US Army for 4 years in Germany. After the war he moved to California where he met his first wife. They had one daughter, Rochelle, and moved to Des Moines.
He later married Nileen Simpson, and together they had two children, Kelly and Kamie. They raised their children in Ankeny, where they made their home.
John worked in his own business, Anderson Painting and Decorating in the Des Moines area for forty years.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing with his grandchildren, volunteering at American Legion Post #42, and spending time with his family. His true hobby was his work.
John is survived by his wife Nileen, children, Rochelle (Randy) Sohn, Kelly (Fiancé, Chance) Frick, and Kamie (Johnny) Davidson, 5 grandchildren, Erica (Jon) Majchrzak, Tara Frick, Joshua (Fiancé-Christine) Davidson, Samantha (Joe) Stigler, and Nathan Frick, 3 great-grandchildren, Sophia Rose, Charlie Anderson, and Tabitha Nicole.
He is preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
