Ona Mae Machir, 77, of Des Moines passed away December 31, 2016.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4th, also at the funeral home.
Ona was born January 9, 1939 in Houston, Missouri, a daughter of John and Winnie Hartman. During her childhood, they moved to Iowa, and Ona graduated from McCallsburg High School. She was proud of being on the School basketball team.
She moved to Des Moines, and went to work for Look magazine. She met and married Ronald Machir, and together, they made their home in Des Moines since 1958.
She worked at AMF in Des Moines for many years, and then went to work for Casey’s, for nearly 20 years, until her retirement in 2001.
Ona enjoyed being home and spending time with her family, and was an excellent caregiver for her husband Ron. In their nearly 59 years of marriage, they shared a tremendous amount of love for one another.
Ona is survived by her husband Ronald; children, Ronald (Deb) Machir, Penny (Danny) Hawxby, Pam (Randy) West, Paula (Mark) Ruths, and Patty (Kris) Robinson; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Linda Wright Skip Hamburg, Nancy Brown, and Debbie Carr; 1 sister in-law, Arvella machir; and many friends, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her special dog, buddy.
