Pamela Rose died surrounded by immediate family on Wednesday, August 5, 2021 from complications following heart surgery. She was 78 years old.

Pam was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on November 11, 1942. She spent her childhood in Kansas City, Kansas, Joplin, Missouri, and Sulfur Springs, Texas. She attended East Texas State University before returning to Kansas City, eventually settling in Ankeny, Iowa in 1975.

Pam was a prolific crafter and artist, co-owner of Ankeny’s first craft store, known simply as “The Craft Factory.” She was a passionate and gifted maker, with creations ranging from knitting to crocheting, quilting, needle point, tatting, cross stitch, macramé and any other craft involving fabric, yarn, or thread. There wasn’t a stitch, style, or fold she couldn’t figure out. More recently, Pam spent her time making and donating baby booties and hats for Mercy Hospital’s NICU, as well as baby blankets for newly arrived congregants of her church.

While her youngest son was in rehearsals at the Des Moines Playhouse, she donated her time to the costume department helping to make costumes for a number of shows. Her skills for sewing carried over to designing and creating costumes for the inaugural classes of Ankeny show choir’s “Visual Adrenaline”.

Later in life she enjoyed supporting her community by providing pick-up and drop-offs, and running errands around town for friends who were unable to drive. An avid gardener, she dedicated countless hours to the care and upkeep of The Memorial Garden at her beloved St. Anne’s Episcopal Church.

Pam was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She had a quick and sometimes mischievous smile, a sharp wit and was delighted that her sons senses of humor could always make her laugh. She was a voracious reader, and an avid sports fan.

Pam is survived by her brother, Stan (Peggy) Campbell of Texas; and sons, Jason (Nicki) Rose of Ankeny, IA, and Justin (Nell Bang-Jensen) Rose of Philadelphia, PA. She was a dedicated grandmother to Noah Rose, Natalie Rose, and Orla Rose Bang-Jensen; and step-grandchildren, Aaron and Ashley. They will remember her for her feisty personality, her laughter, and most of all her dogged-determination to support her family through thick and thin.

Services will be held at St Anne’s Episcopal Church (2110 W 1st St, Ankeny, IA 50023) on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11:00 am. For those who wish to attend the service virtually, please contact Father Vincent at rector@saechurch.org for a link. In accordance with church requirements attendees must wear facemasks.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pam’s name to St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. Contributions will be used towards church projects that Pam held close to her heart.
