When a flag is folded for each or our veterans we have the following words that we read to the family for each one. It is more meaningful when we are folding the final flag of tribute. I hope these words that follow convey the meaning of respect and honor that all veterans feel for each other and their families. This banner of love and devotion now being folded is a visual memorial of the service by our dearly departed, the one you came here to honor today. The blue field represents the sky that overlooks our land and denotes the watchfulness of God the eternal. The red stripes tell us of the blood, sweat and tears that have been offered - and conquered - by our loved one’s devotion - to the responsibility - to maintain the freedom of our country. The white stripes boldly proclaim the peace that he helped to bring to our future generations. This is his flag. This is our spiritual heritage and a symbol of our deepest gratitude. As long as two veterans survive – so long will the veterans of this Great Nation render tribute to our heroic dead. On this day, we have assembled to express sincere reverence. This grave is the resting place of our departed veteran who served his country. Wherever the body of a veteran lies, there the ground is hallowed. Our presence here is in solemn commemoration of this veteran - - - an expression of our tribute to his Devotion to Duty, - - - to his Courage, - - - and to his Patriotism. We are indebted to him for his service to our country - - - for the flag of our Nation still flies over a land of free people. Farewell WWII Veteran Robert Boatman
