Robert L. Landers, 93 of Ankeny passed away June 3, 2017.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 7th at Resurrection Lutheran Church (914 N W Ash Drive). A visitation will be held 7 – 8 p.m., June 6th at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). Burial will be at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
Robert was born August 15, 1923 in Conception Junction, Missouri to Jesse Forrest and Fern Lee (Silvers) Landers. Following his graduation from High School, he enlisted with the Army Air Force, December 15, 1942 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was a Radio Operator and a Mechanic Gunner during World War II, and he earned an American Theater Ribbon and a Service Stripe Victory Medal.
Upon his return from the war, he worked selling cars, and became a Ford factory dealer representative. He started his own home improvement businesses, and worked for other businesses selling building materials until his retirement.
He was a 32nd degree mason, and a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. His first hobby was his work—he enjoyed it. He also enjoyed flying, golfing, playing Texas Hold-em, and traveling.
Robert is survived by his wife Martha; 5 children, Carol (Ted) Austin, Jill (Richard) Burgett, Kelly Rae (Rusty L) Risius, James (Kelly) Pearson, Lindsey (Neal) Schrode; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; a sister Ruth (Henry) Lee; 2 brothers in law John (Lisa) Miller, and Daniel (Reenae) Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Resurrection Lutheran Church or a veterans’ charity of your choice.
