Roberta Lou (Benbow) Starr, 91 passed away on April 18, 2022.

Roberta was born October 14, 1930 in Boone County Iowa.   The daughter of Harvey and Hazel (Conn) Benbow.  Her father was a farmer, and she grew up on several homesteads near Madrid, Rippey and Luther, IA.

Roberta met Bill Starr in the summer of 1946 in California.  After she graduated from Luther High School in 1948, she moved to California and they were married in 1949. Roberta and Bill returned to Iowa in 1950.  Bill joined the Iowa Highway Patrol in 1953.  They lived in La Porte City, IA until 1966 then relocated to Ankeny, IA where Roberta has lived for 56 years.

Roberta was a homemaker and dedicated her life to raising four children and taking pride in her home.  She also worked at Heartland AEA when her children were older.  She loved her family and always looked forward to hosting holidays and spending time with them.  Her favorites were watching college sports, reading, and she had a green thumb for many flowers and plants in her yard.

Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Starr; parents, Harvey and Hazel Benbow; sister, Alberta Benbow; half-brother, Donald Bradbury; and friend John Nervig.  She is survived by her children, Randy (Terri) Starr, Denny (Susan) Starr, Kathy (Steve) Peters, and Scott Starr; ten grandchildren, Jeremiah (Melissa), Lana (Tony),  Tracy (Mike), Rebekah (David), Logan (Ericka), Tanner, Kramer, Hannah (Teague), Garrett (Audrey), and Hallie; and eight great-grandchildren, Addison, Elijah, Camden, Kaiah, Maysen, Meyah, Hailey and Brendan.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Roberta Starr may be made to the Des Moines Botanical Center.

A private family funeral will be held.
