Rodger Wayne Thompson, of Ames, died Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the age of 74 at The Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

A visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Bethesda Lutheran Church (1517 Northwestern Ave, Ames, IA). A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Rodger, the son of James and Wilma (Burkey) Thompson, was born February 3, 1949, in Ames, Iowa.  He graduated from United Community High School in 1967.

Rodger served in the Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran.  He was proud of his service and participated in the Iowa Honor Flight to honor veterans in Washington D.C.  He retired from the Hach Company in Ames where he worked for most of his career.   He was a member of the Ames Alano Society where he actively mentored others for over 30 years.  In his retirement, Rodger was a model train enthusiast with an amazing collection of trains and an impressive outdoor miniature railway system.

Rodger is survived by his nephew Paul Thompson of Boone and nieces Lori (Kent) Fehr of Omaha, NE, Karen (David) Noftsger of Clive; great-nephews Grant Fehr, Andrew Fehr, Jacob Noftsger and Joshua Noftsger.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ronald Thompson and sister-in-law, Marilyn Thompson.
