Scott Mooi, 50, died on September 11, 2021, in Philadelphia, PA after a lengthy illness.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, September 20, 2021 at Prairie Ridge Church (825 NW 36th St.). Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021 also at the church. Burial will follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). *Masks are strongly encouraged to be worn.* The funeral service will be livestreamed at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/380670

Scott was born on September 15, 1970, to Leslie and Colleen Mooi.  He was raised on a farm near Ackley, Iowa and graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School in 1989.

He received an associate’s degree in computer networking from Des Moines Area Community College in 1993 and began a life-long career in the IT industry. Since October of 1997, Scott was a beloved team member at NCMIC Group in Clive, Iowa serving as a network administrator and most recently as a cyber-security analyst.

Scott married his high school sweetheart, Christa, on August 15, 1992, and they settled in Ankeny, Iowa, where they lived most of their married lives, recently relocating to Altoona. Scott and Christa were blessed with one son, Kellan. Scott was a patient and loving husband, a hands-on dad, and watching Kellan grow up was his biggest joy. Scott and Kellan were best friends.

Scott loved Jesus, and that love was demonstrated through his servant-hearted actions toward others and his family. He selflessly mowed lawns, scooped sidewalks, fixed computers, fixed cars, and endless other tasks for anyone who needed help. He and Christa were heavily involved in the growth of two churches: Prairie Ridge Church in Ankeny and ReNew Community in Ames. Scott freely shared his technical expertise with the production and technology teams in both churches, and his work has impacted countless lives for God’s kingdom. His response to every request was, “I can do that!”

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Leslie Mooi; and his parents-in-law, Lynn and Lois Boelman.  He is survived by his wife, Christa; son, Kellan and his fiancée Hannah Leif; his mom, Colleen Mooi; his sister-in-law, Shannon (Gary) Jepsen and their girls Natalie, Claire and Carly; his foreign exchange student brother, Luis Discua of Honduras; many cousins, aunts and uncles, and countless friends.
