Susan Hinman

October 4, 1940 - July 6, 2018

Susan Hinman, 77, of Ankeny, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Mercy West Lakes Medical Center in West Des Moines Iowa. A funeral mass will be held at Noon, Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church , 510 East First Street, Ankeny Iowa 50021 with Burial at Ankeny Memorial Garden Cemetery, 4208 North Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny Ia 50023.
A visitation is schedule at 10am – Noon at the church followed by the mass and a luncheon. A procession will take place at 2:15 pm to the cemetery. All are welcome to celebrate her life!
Susan was born October 4, 1940 in Odebolt, Iowa to Joseph and Alice (Koch) Casserly. Susan stayed home as a full time mother until her children began school. She then began working at DMACC in 1974 and worked there in numerous capacities (bookstore, registration and financial aid) until retiring in 2017.
Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved to be with her family. She also enjoyed playing cards, spending time with friends and loved seeing all her fur babies. She was a passionate cook and loved having family and friends come around so she could prepare meals and baked goods. Who doesn’t remember chicken and noodles, brownies, cinnamon rolls or Christmas Pumpkin rolls?
Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Don and is survived by her three children, Duane Hinman of Colo, Dave (Kathy) Hinman of O’Fallon, MO and Teresa (Rich) DeArmond of Ankeny: five grandchildren, Chris (Kelly) Hinman, Emily Hinman, Brandon Hinman, Cheyenne DeArmond and Colt DeArmond; three great grandchildren, Luke Fischer, Logan Hinman and Cora Hinman; two sisters, Alice (Roger) Murken of Claremont CA and Mary Mower of Marion IA.
Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Family for contribution to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Above + Beyond Cancer.
