Viola (Vi) Kay De Stigter, 78, passed away on May 21, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by a lunch and reception until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Lutheran Church of Hope Ankeny (520 NW 36th St.)

Viola was born on January 3, 1944 to Henry and Katie Mulder in the small town of Prinsburg, Minnesota, where she graduated from Central Minnesota Christian School.  She attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, after which she taught elementary school in Holland, Minnesota.

While at Dordt, she met her husband Glenn De Stigter and they were married on June 4, 1966.  They had three children, Mitch, Troy and Jason who she raised as a stay-at-home mom while Glenn worked for, and eventually led, a large national general contracting firm.

Once her sons had graduated, Vi reentered the workforce with the City of Ankeny working for the Engineering and Building Department and also serving as the recording secretary for both the Planning and Zoning Department and the Board of Adjunct Commission.

After 20 years, she retired from the City to spend time traveling internationally with her husband and friends while also wintering in her house in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Vi was active in her church and served both as an elder and Sunday school teacher as well as being an active participate in various bible study groups.  She was also very active in PEO with both her Iowa and Arizona chapters, many times hosting events at her houses.

Vi was an avid Iowa State athletics fan, where she held season tickets for over 40 years, attending countless football and men’s and women’s basketball games, always proudly wearing the cardinal and gold colors.

Vi’s other true passion was the design and decorating of several custom homes in Arizona and Iowa that she and Glenn had the opportunity build over the years.  Her talent in this area always created a home environment that was functional while also being open and inviting to family and guests.  Vi was the preeminent host, frequently hosting large gatherings at her homes for various causes and charity events thought out the years, including the annual Weitz Company Employee Christmas parties and most recently a 100-person gathering for Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

Viola is remembered by her large number of friends and family as being a kind, generous, beautiful and caring person.  She is survived by her husband, three sons, and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Central Minnesota Christian Schools.
