Wilford Anderson

October 11, 1923 - February 18, 2018

Wilford Anderson, 94, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Adel, Iowa.
Wilford Anderson (Andy) was born in 1923 in Gilbert, Iowa. He attended public school in Randall, Iowa, and joined the Navy after graduation in 1941. Wilford was on active duty all through WWII, serving as an aviation radioman, cadet, and naval aviator. He served over 17 months overseas in North Africa and Italy. After the war he received a BS Degree from ISU and two graduate degrees from Drake University.

He married Lillian Mortvedt in 1947. They were together for 70 years and raised 5 children.

Wilford served as math and science teacher, high school principal and superintendent in the field of education for 34 years. Twenty – six of those years as superintendent in Adel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Clara Anderson, one brother, Arnold, and one son, David.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian, two daughters, Susan (Kim) Sylvester of Peoria, IL, and Barbara of Bend, OR.; two sons, Dale of Adel and Mark of Urbandale; daughter – in – law Judi (Larry) Henson of Foristell, MO; sister – in – law Fern Anderson of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
