William Norman Peterson, 76, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away at the Sunny View Care Center on July 7, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Bill was born on July 26, 1939 in Storm Lake to W. Norman and Ann (Jones) Peterson. He graduated from Providence High School in Sulphur Springs in 1957 and moved to Minneapolis. In 1959 he joined the Air Force but was medically discharged due to his severe migraines. He returned to Storm Lake and took the advice of his mother to go to a chiropractor for his migraines. The success of the chiropractic adjustments motivated him to choose a new career path and about the same time he met his future wife, Carole Nixon.

On September 11, 1960, Bill and Carole were married in Fonda, Iowa. They moved to Davenport in 1961 where Bill attended Palmer College of Chiropractic. After graduation they moved to Waterloo so he could begin his career. In 1973 their only daughter, Jean Ann, was born.

In 1975 Bill established his own such successful clinic in Evansdale where he continued to practice for 37 years. He was an active member of the Iowa Chiropractic Society and the Presidents Club of Palmer College until the year 2000 when he retired.

While in Waterloo, Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge, El Kahir Shriners, Elks Club and served on various boards for Ascension Lutheran Church.

During their 55 plus years of marriage, Bill and Carole enjoyed many past times together. Early on they enjoyed golfing, dancing and gardening. Later, they spent many enjoyable weekends at their home on the Mississippi River in Guttenberg. Bill especially enjoyed fishing and boating, along with their many friendships with fellow river rats.

As Bill’s health declined, they moved to Ankeny before their first grandchild was born in 2008. Lovingly called Pappy by his granddaughters, Emily and Lexi, Bill’s later years were well spent with family get-togethers and Sunday meals, that always included dessert.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carole; brother, Leonard of Storm Lake; daughter, Jean Ann (David) Olberding; granddaughters, Emily and Alexa Olberding; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Merry.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Services of Iowa, 4208 N Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, Monday, July 11, 2016 from 5-7 pm.

Funeral service will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope-Ankeny, 520 NW 36th Street, Ankeny, at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 12, 2016, with luncheon to follow.
