William Joseph McCarthy “Joe”, 76, went home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2018.
A visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 East First Street, Ankeny, IA. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 2nd, also at the church.

Joe was born December 14, 1941 in Hoagland, NE to Neil and Frances McCarthy, both deceased. He graduated in 1960 from Cozad High School in Cozad, NE. Joe attended the University of Nebraska studying Computer Science and graduated after his service in the army at Nettleton Business College. Joe was enlisted in the United States Army from 1964-1966 and stationed at the DMZ in Korea. Joe married Margie Ransom on May 21, 1966. They had three children, one daughter and two sons. Joe has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1958, and is currently a 4th Degree Knight. He retired from computer programming and started his own business with son Doug, McCarthy Construction, in 1998.
Joe is survived by his daughter and two sons; Debbie and husband Brad Meyer of Bloomington, IN, Doug and wife Tricia of Ankeny, IA, and Joe and wife Trina of West Allis, WI; four grandchildren: Chris and Rachael Meyer, and Haley and Noah McCarthy. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother; Mary and husband Harley Nichelson, Patricia and husband Tom Thomas, and John and wife Bonnie McCarthy.
He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law; Twilla McCarthy, Rosemary McCarthy, Patricia McCarthy-Flaig and Larry Flaig, George Mondragon, Marion and husband Chuck Doremus, Mervin Jr. and wife Bonnie Ransom, and Greg Ransom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, or Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Church.
