Dennis James Winders, 78, died August 4, 2022, of respiratory complications peacefully at Unity Point Methodist in Des Moines.

A visitation will be held 5-7pm, Monday, August 8, 2022, at Ankeny Memorial funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd).  A funeral, celebrating his life will be 11am, Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church (206 SW Walnut, Ankeny).

Denny started in commercial construction, then had a 33-year career at Des Moines Public Schools retiring as Administrator of Facility Management.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Ankeny; son, Jeff (Emily) Winders of Grimes; daughter Jamie (Rick) Ross of Mitchellville; stepson, Jason (Emily) Hurst of White Lake, Michigan; sister, Cheryl Dykes  of Des Moines; sister-in-Law, Wendy Winders of Ankeny; 8 Grandchildren: Connor (Lauren) Winders of Des Moines, Kaylin (Trey) Thiele of Des Moines, Heather Ross of Portland, Oregon, Brian Ross of Des Moines, Katie Ross of Des Moines, Bade, Ethan and Julia Hurst of White Lake, Michigan; 1 Great Grandson, Titus Thiele of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Helen Winders; his brother, David Winders; and brother-in-law, Ed Dykes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ankeny First United Methodist Church, designated to Malawi.
